Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the app require internet access?
No. Compound Calc works completely offline. All calculations and data storage happen locally on your device. You never need an internet connection to use any feature.
Q: Is my financial data private and secure?
Absolutely. All your calculations, goals, and history are stored only on your device. We never collect, transmit, or share your data with anyone. For complete details, see our
Privacy Policy.
Q: Are the calculations accurate?
The app uses standard compound interest formulas and provides mathematically accurate results based on the inputs you provide. However, real-world investment returns are affected by many factors (taxes, fees, market volatility, inflation) that the calculator cannot predict. Always consult a qualified financial advisor before making investment decisions.
Q: Can I export or backup my data?
Currently, the app doesn't have a manual export feature. However, if you enable Android's automatic backup in your device settings, your calculation history and goals will be backed up to your Google Account and restored if you reinstall the app or switch devices.
Q: What is compound interest?
Compound interest is interest calculated on both the initial principal and the accumulated interest from previous periods. This "interest on interest" effect causes your investment to grow exponentially over time, making it a powerful tool for long-term wealth building.
Q: What's the difference between compounding frequencies?
- Annually: Interest calculated once per year
- Semi-annually: Twice per year (every 6 months)
- Quarterly: Four times per year (every 3 months)
- Monthly: 12 times per year
- Daily: 365 times per year
- Continuously: Mathematical maximum compounding frequency
More frequent compounding results in slightly higher returns. The difference is most significant for long-term investments.
Q: How do I delete a saved calculation or goal?
In the History or Goals screen, tap on the item you want to delete, then use the delete button. You can also swipe items to reveal delete options. To clear all history at once, use the "Clear History" option in Settings.
Q: What devices are supported?
Compound Calc supports Android devices running Android 7.0 (API level 24) or higher, which covers approximately 96% of active Android devices. The app works on phones, tablets, and foldable devices.
Q: Is the app free? Are there ads or in-app purchases?
The app is completely free with no advertisements, no in-app purchases, and no hidden fees. All features are available to all users at no cost.
Q: Can I use this for business or commercial purposes?
The app is designed for personal, educational use. For commercial use or integration into business systems, please contact us at

Troubleshooting
The app crashes or won't open
Solutions:
- Restart your device
- Ensure you have the latest version of the app from Google Play Store
- Check that your device has Android 7.0 or higher
- Clear the app's cache: Settings → Apps → Compound Calc → Storage → Clear Cache
- If problems persist, try reinstalling the app (note: this will delete your saved data unless you have Android backup enabled)
Calculations seem incorrect
Check:
- Ensure you've entered the interest rate as a percentage (e.g., 7.5 for 7.5%, not 0.075)
- Verify the compounding frequency matches your investment
- Check that the time period is correct (in years)
- If using regular contributions, ensure the contribution frequency matches your compounding frequency
If you believe there's a calculation error, please email us with the specific inputs and results at goldstine@outlook.co.nz.
Dark mode isn't working
Compound Calc follows your system dark mode setting. To enable dark mode:
- Open your device Settings
- Go to Display → Dark theme (or similar, varies by device)
- Enable dark theme
- Reopen Compound Calc
My goals or history disappeared
Possible causes:
- App data was cleared in device settings
- App was uninstalled and reinstalled without backup enabled
- Device storage was full, causing data corruption
Prevention: Enable Android backup in your device settings to automatically back up your data to your Google Account.
Chart isn't displaying correctly
Try:
- Scrolling or zooming on the chart area
- Rotating your device to landscape mode for a larger view
- Recalculating with different time periods (very short or very long periods may affect display)
💡 Pro Tips:
- Use the comparison feature to evaluate different investment scenarios side-by-side
- For retirement planning, set your time period to match your retirement timeline
- Experiment with different contribution amounts to see how they affect your goals
- Save multiple goals to track different financial objectives simultaneously
- Remember: higher returns typically come with higher risk - consult a financial advisor
